1- For the first 24 hours only, in
order to minimize swelling, apply an
ice bag on the cheek in the area of surgery applying it for 30 minutes on and
10 minutes off.Avoid rinsing, spitting, or touching the wound on the day of
surgery.Drink cold liquids, eat soft food.

Smokers
should avoid smoking for 3 days; smoking will slow the healing process.
2- The day
after surgery, rinse your mouth with warm salty water
(a half teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) at least 2-3 times a day,
especially after meals, for 7 to10 days. Be gentle with brushing the surgical
areas. Oral hygiene is essential to good healing..

Partial
dentures, flippers, or full dentures should not be used immediately after
surgery and for at least 10 days.
3- Take your
medications as recommended by your dentist: (Begin
using pain medication before the numbness wears off. Be sure to take the prescribed antibiotics as
directed to help prevent infection).
